FACE MASKS, Gaiters & face COVERINGS
Proper Usage
Face masks or coverings are required for all staff and students, ages 3 years old to adults, and must be worn:
- Over the nose and mouth and when physical distancing is not possible.
- In the classroom, during passing periods and in common spaces
- On the bus at all times.
Masks with one-way exhalation valves or vents are not allowed. Failure to wear a mask is considered a health hazard and may result in disciplinary consequences.
Face Shields
All students will be given a face shield to facilitate clear communication for in-person instruction. Students would only be allowed to wear them while seated at their desk.
- A note from a health care provider is required if a student or employee has a health condition that inhibits them from wearing a face covering/mask or due to a religious practice that would require otherwise.
- Full-face shields may be used in place of a mask whenever a mask is not feasible or whenever the education context may benefit from the ability to see an individual’s full face.
RECESS
- Use of playground equipment will be staggered by zones. The number of classes on the playground will be limited and students will physically distance when feasible. Children will stay with their homeroom class.
- Masks and/or face coverings are required during recess. As always, we will follow UIL guidance for outdoor play given heat advisories.
- Students and staff will wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer before and after recess.
Breakfast & Lunch process
Cafeteria Setup
- Lunch tables all face the same direction and are setup as “half tables”with only be two children per table.
- For breakfast, the first 60 students will eat in the cafeteria. Additional students eating breakfast will take it to their classroom.
- For lunch, Life Skills, Pre-K, Kinder, 1st and 2nd will eat in the cafeteria and 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will eat in their classroom.
Buying Lunch & Breakfast
- We will only be serving complete meals (no a la carte items available.)
- All students have a “lunch card” on their lanyard scanned (no typing numbers.)
- Funds should be added to student accounts via schoolcafe.com or the School Cafe app.
- If your child receives free breakfast or lunch, when their “lunch card” is scanned it will designate a free meal.
- Children may also bring lunch. Food deliveries for students will not be accepted. If a student forgets their lunch, they will be provided with a cafeteria lunch.
- If your child has any specific food allergies please alert the nurse and their classroom teacher.
Bus Riders
- Pre-K and Kinder students will be given a blue card. An adult with their blue card must be present at the bus stop for the child to get off the bus. (This insures that no young child is left at the wrong bus stop.) The driver will bring your child back to school if you do not have a blue card. Parents/Students can request extra cards from the front office.
- If you miss the bus drop-off, the bus will bring your child back to school.
- Students returned to the school three times, may lose bus privileges.
