– Frequently Asked Questions –

What happens to Spark Park?
The SPARK Park Designation will carry over to the new school. The district will create a new SPARK Park entry portal and has committed to replacing the donor wall with a comparable wall. Some SPARK Park items, like the workout equipment, will be reused. Other items, such as the Gaga pit, trash cans, and benches, are near the end of their usable life and won’t be reused or replaced.
Why are donations going to the SBEF?
SBEF has the infrastructure to support the large volume of donations we expect and can more efficiently provide tax documents to donors. In addition, donating to SBEF opens many to be eligible for matching funds which usually can’t be donated to PTA’s, PTA’s have very strict limitations on the amount of funds that can be carried over, and SBEF has done this for other rebuild campaigns and has a process in place to easily move the money to the district. 100% of all funds raised will be available to the Capital Campaign.
Are there naming rights?
There will be bricks or pavers at some donor levels. SBISD has strict limitations on naming rights and we are still working with them on options.
Can I direct my funds to something specific?
No. All funds will be used by the Capital Campaign Committee to purchase items identified as priorities..
Will I get a tax write-off?
Your donation to SBEF, a registered 501c(3) charitable non-profit, is tax deductible - just make sure to talk to your tax preparer for the impact to your personal finances.
who is the approving body for how the money is spent?
The Capital Campaign Committee will determine how the money is spent based on priorities identified by teachers and the community and the amount of money raised.
Can I spread my donation out over time?
Multiple donations are welcome, but only the amount paid by this campaign deadline, committed by July 1, 2022 and paid by November 1, 2022, will count towards recognition.
Are you considering an upgraded track surface?
No, that is not on the list of upgrade options. Purchasing an upgraded track surface is not only cost prohibitive at installation, it requires a commitment from the PTA that they will take on all costs for repairs and replacement. Repairs are typically needed within 5 years - sometimes as early as 3 years after install - and shorten the lifespan of the track. Full replacement is often needed after 10 years, but frequent, proper maintenance can extend the life.
Will the playground and track and field area be open to the public?
Once complete, the track and field and playground will be open to the public outside school hours, just the way they are today.
Is there going to be a back entrance to the school?
Per safety code, the new school will have two primary entrances - the main entrance fronting Nottingham Oaks Trail and a second Student entrance at the bus drive fronting Thicket Ln. Both entrances will follow district protocol for access.
Why do we need to upgrade the playground?
Today, Students have 5 zones during recess: Swings (8), Gaga Pit and older exercise equipment, 2 Climbing Structures, and the Track and Field.
In the new build, the District Standard, which the District will pay for, provides 1 Climbing Structure for upper grades, 1 Climbing structure for lower grades, Swings (6) and Track and Field. Although it contains awesome new equipment, it provides fewer zones for students during recess and less access. In addition, although space is provided for a Pre-K play area, no equipment is provided.
Can we Donate as a group?
We welcome donations from families, clubs, classes, or even informal groups - here’s looking at you Naughty Ochos. Please note that there are restrictions on the character count and number of lines for each brick or paver, based on size and donation level.. We’ll work with groups to find a way to memorialize your donation in a way that meets our limitations.
